Finally Friday Night!

Instead of going out with friends, I decided to stay home tonight. I figured I'd spend some time updating this thing. I may also get some guitar practice in for a change. While I'm not doing that, I believe I'm going to check out some bands I keep hearing about from friends. Some of them I had heard of, like Sepultura, and liked. Others, like At The Gates, I haven't really heard anything from. I have quite a few others to look into, as well. Anyway guys, I'm gonna be trying to update this a bit more on weekends, so keep checking for new posts!

First update in a few days...

Sorry for taking so long to update this thing. This adjustment to first shift has been rough so far. Anyway, I figured I'd post now since I have a little free time. I recently decided to watch Iron Maiden's "Live After Death" again, and it's still amazing to watch. I had an opportunity to go see Maiden a while back(with Dream Theater opening), but I had prior obligations. Anyway, time to go for now...I think I'm in the mood for a little Spinal Tap tonight!

Another quick post.

I'll be spending most of the day with my family, because my birthday is coming up in a couple of days. Since that was the case, I figured I would say I've listened to a lot of your music suggestions, and liked quite a few of them. Anyway, I'm off to get some practice in on my guitar, and spend some time with the family. I start first shift at work in the morning, so it'll be mid-afternoon here before I post another update. Stay metal! \m/

Just a Random Update

It took me a bit longer than usual to get online today, but I figured I'd post really quick. Everybody post your suggestions for new listening material. I'm fairly open-minded when it comes to metal. Actually, recommend anything(metal or not) you find interesting and I'll check it out.

Metalocalypse

Is anyone else a huge fan of this show?? I've been watching it since it started, and I must say that I love the show. I think the music is entertaining, to say the least. For some reason, Toki is my favorite character. I think it's because he comes off as having the mentality of a child while being in a band as brutal as Dethklok. I'm wondering if they're planning to make a 3rd Dethalbum, mainly because I missed the tour with Mastodon on the last one. If there's another tour coming, I'm not gonna miss it.

Mike Portnoy

If you're a fan of Dream Theater(such as myself), you have likely heard the news of Mike Portnoy's departure from the band. He posted a long letter online to inform his fans that he was no longer a member of the band he had been with for 25 years. It was very disappointing to me, because I don't see how DT can really replace Portnoy that easily. There are other great drummers, but it's more than drumming talent that has to be filled. He and Petrucci were the faces of that band, in my opinion.

What were your thoughts on the situation when you heard about it? Feel free to discuss what you think is going to happen in the future for DT.

The Final Frontier

Iron Maiden is one of the most well-known bands in the world, and they deserve every ounce of respect they get. That's why I was excited to hear about their latest effort, "The Final Frontier". While it may not be as memorable as their earlier works, I believe it holds up well by itself. I know that a lot of hardcore fans aren't really into the newer albums, but I think this album definitely has some great moments.

That isn't to say that it's a flawless album by any means. There are some moments where you can hear Bruce Dickinson's age. He still sounds fantastic through most of the album, but he doesn't hit the notes quite as easily as he used to. Like pretty much every album, there are ups and downs. In comparison to their previous album, "A Matter of Life and Death", I would say it's about equal. It's a great album, and even after several listens I feel as though it gets better to me.

The First Post of Many to Come

Welcome to my blog. The purpose of me starting this was simply to discuss a topic that I enjoy. That topic is heavy metal. Like many people, I started to get into metal when I was younger. As I got out of high school, my tastes in music were constantly changing. Now, at almost 23 years of age, I find my horizons still expanding all the time. I decided that this could be a good way to discuss something I enjoy. Well, this looks to be the first of many future updates to this blog. Expect another update in next couple of days.
